Prevention through Design (PtD)

NIOSH Prevention through Design (PtD) is just as effective as elimination control in OSHA Hierarchy of Controls. It is not always realistic to eliminate a hazard in an existing process or equipment but PtD could provide similar effect. PtD integrates safety in the design phase to ensure effective controls are in place before employees are exposed to hazards. Application of PtD could reduce significant time and cost of hazard mitigation in the workplace.
